Doyle, Richard. Brutal police force from London in the bull ring, Birmingham. See the morning papers.” 26th August 1839.

This site focuses on my postgraduate research on the impacts on Australian democracy of transported political prisoners connected to two significant radical movements of the late 1830s and 1840s, Chartism and Young Ireland, through the lens of emotion.

For as the prisoners were forcibly moved from the British Isles, their activism and exile moved the public - from apathy to indignation, despondency, shame and grief to hope and defiance.
